Kody King
It is with much sorrow that I report on the passing of Kody King. Kody drowned during a boating accident last week in Sand Lake, Anchorage, Alaska. He was in his mid twenties. Kody was a student at the Anchorage Dojo; and he, along with his other siblings, competed in and practice judo while attending Sensei Brink's club during the 1990's.
Kody was a co worker with David Puerner at Highland Tech High; and talked to David about starting judo again after visiting his brothers dojo while on a recent trip.
It is always difficult to know what to say to the family and friends at a time like this, but please note that he will always be remembered by all those who knew and competed with him. He was a fine young man and he will be missed.
As soon as we hear more about the funeral services, we will forward the information.

We're having a potluck on May 21st. This will be our last practice at Wasilla Middle School, and everybody is invited to come.
Mat-Su Judo is #1 in Alaska
Congratulations to Mat-Su Judo! We took first place at the 50th Alaska State Judo Championship!
Mat-Su Junior Boys Team also won the Sato Cup also.
50th Alaska State Judo Championship Award Winners
The Tournament was dedicated to Ron Hildebrand known as the “Father of Alaska Judo.” Ron, along with two other Alaskan Instructors (Charles Barr & Bill Davenport) passed away in 2008. Sensei Hildebrand started Judo in Anchorage in the mid 1950’s.
The overall team competition was won by Mat-Su Judo Club from Wasilla, Alaska. Second place was a tie between The Dimond Center School of Judo and Anchorage Dojo. Third place went to Highland Tech High School (Anchorage, Alaska). Individual award winners were:
